32 | LPA interviewed the Executive Director, six (6) out of six (6) staff that denied the allegation stating that staff are required to wear gloves when assisting with resident care such as incontinence care, feeding assistance, dressing assistance, toileting assistance, brushing teeth, shower assistance, first aid treatment, medication management, eye drops, ointments, and when residents are quarantined. LPA interviewed five (5) out of seven (7) residents that denied the allegation stating that staff wear gloves when they provide direct care to the residents. LPA interviewed two (2) out of seven residents that stated not knowing if the staff wear gloves when they provide direct care to the residents. LPA reviewed documentation of seven (7) care provider files that included ongoing staff training completed such as the following topics: Fundamentals of Infection Control, About Infection Control and Prevention, Toileting and Incontinence Care, Assisting with Resident Care, Bloodborne Pathogens and the Use of Standard Precautions, Bathing, Hygiene and Resident Body Checks. LPA reviewed facility’s Infection Control Plan which indicates the procedure regarding gloves. Based on record review, the Infection Control Plan further states that staff wear gloves for all resident care/contact and/or tasks where the potential for contact with blood or other body fluids may exist. The infection control plan stated examples on the use of gloves such as any kind of personal care such as bathing, changing incontinence briefs, toileting, feminine needs, handling soiled linens and/or clothing, and when doing first aid or dressing changes. Per Executive Director, the facility has not had any recent incidents where they had to refer to the Infection Control Plan. However, the Executive Director stated that the Infection Control Plan continues to be updated and ensures that the facility follows its requirements. LPA toured the facility with the Executive Director, Staff #5 (S5) and Staff #6 (S6) and confirmed that the facility has sufficient supply of gloves in the locked storage room and locked Assisted Living laundry room. There is not enough sufficient evidence to substantiate.
Allegation: “Staff are not meeting resident's hygiene care needs.” It is alleged that a resident had feces on their hands due to the resident putting their hand in their own diaper. LPA interviewed the Executive Director, six (6) out of six (6) staff that denied the allegation stating that the facility ensures that the resident’s hygiene care needs are met and residents are immediately cleaned when they have feces on their body, clothes or in their room. Per Executive Director and one (1) out of six (6) staff stated that the facility does not have a log for incontinence changes but residents under incontinence care are checked every two hours. Two (2) out of six (6) staff stated witnessing Resident #1 (R1) with feces that occurred once and the staff immediately cleaned the R1 and R1’s room. During the visit, LPA toured the facility with the Executive Director and observed Resident #8 (R8) that had a bowel movement (BM) in that resident’s room. [Continue to LIC9099-C] |
